Word of Life curriculum - a joint creation of The Augustine Institute and Ignatius Press - represents a new vision for catecheis at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. These catechetical resources for Pre-K through Grade 8 children provide not only faithful teaching, but also explain why the faith is relevant in our modern culture.
This comprehensive, multifaceted curriculum calls children, parents, teachers and catechists to conversion and transformation in Christ. It also brings together faith and reason and demonstrates how the truths of the faith speak to the human heart.
The Word of Life curriculum helps Christians “give a complete meaning to their existence, educating them in a mentality of faith in keeping with the Gospel”. Responding to the needs of contemporary culture and those of modern man requires an “evangelizing catechesis”. This catechesis centers on an initial proclamation of the kerygma.
What makes Word of Life unique and impactful is its approach to the “formation of a Christian mentality” and how it creates “a coherent doctrinal vision that can be used as a reference in life.”
This new initiative is a rediscovery rather than a reinvention. Word of Life unites a faithful articulation of the faith as it is presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church with, when necessary, esteemed sources in the living tradition of the Church to form a presentation of faith that is meaningful, practical, and intelligible for modern students.
