In mid-August 2024 St. Thomas the Apostle parishioner, Julian Osborn departed Tucson for Conception Seminary College located in Conception, MO (90 miles northeast of Kansas City) to begin the propaedeutic stage of priestly discernment. Another of the Diocese of Tucson's year one seminarians - Francisco Sauceda - will also attend Conception. All parishioners are invited to pray for Julian, Francisco and others who are in various stages of their priesthood formation. We are also reminded that other St. Thomas men and women may be called to be priests, deacons and sisters. That is why prayers for vocations are so very important. Enjoy reading about Julian and learn what his first-year studies encompassed. Julian's second year formation is underway at Mount Angel Abbey & Seminary in Oregon. He continues his studies in the Discipleship II stage (the propaedeutic to discipleship IV stages being equal to freshman to senior). The main difference between Julian's first year and this one is the classes, which are mainly philosophy courses. Mt. Angel itself is a much bigger seminary than Conception with over twice as many seminarians because it is both a college and theology seminary, the only seminary with both in the U.S. However, this seminary is also run by Benedictine monks, so it is a blessing to continue his spiritual growth with them. It was a great first year and Julian looks forward to the future as he carries on with his studies.
