Juan J. Aguirre was born in Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico and obtained his Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Arizona where he was a first prize winner of two major Opera competitions.
Juan made his professional opera debut with Arizona Opera Company in 1997 and continues to perform with them to this day. Additionally, he has sung professionally with numerous opera companies and orchestras throughout the world. Opera roles he has performed include Sarastro (
The Magic Flute), Don Basilio (
The Barber of Seville), Poo-Bah (
The Mikado) and Falstaff (
The Merry Wives of Windsor).
Equally at home in the realm of musical theatre, Juan is a regular on Arizona stages in such roles such as Jesus (
Simon Peter Passion play), Captain Von Trapp (
The Sound of Music), Javert (
Les Miserables), and Caiphas (
Jesus Christ Superstar).
In the world of popular music Juan has recorded two CDs and sings bass with
The Presidio Boys (country/gospel male quartet) and
The 4GENTS (Doo-wop male quartet).
Juan sings regularly in recitals /concerts/ operas throughout Mexico. He was a featured bass soloist with the Liszt Academy orchestra in Budapest Hungary and was privileged to sing in the presence of president Ricardo Maduro of Honduras and a number of distinguished guests in 2005.
When not performing on stage, Juan enjoys stage directing, teaching private voice lessons, and working for TUSD’s Opening Minds through the Arts (O.M.A), helping to reinforce the state curriculum through music and drama. He can also be frequently seen and heard on both local and national television/radio as a bilingual actor and voice over artist.
